Summer Events '25
Hello everyone,
Madame la Présidente ici !
It's been a busy Summer so far for the Friends of Oignies. We have organised or participated in no less than three events so far this Summer; all since the latest visit of our Amis from Oignies back in April.
See below for more details along with a few pics.
Buxton Spring Fair
Saturday 5th May
On 5th May at Buxton Spring Fair, our beautiful, new gazebo had its first outing. The weather was (as usual) rather unpredictable so we were very glad of it. There was some interest in our organisation but no one new has joined. We will always welcome new members whenever they feel ready.
I gratefully accepted a cheque from The High Peak Mayoral Charity on the Friends of Oignies' behalf and we took delivery of a brilliant plug in cool/hot box... just in time for its first event.

The Origin's of our Twinning
A Presentation by
Dr Michael Somerville
Friday 13th June
On Friday 13th June we were so very pleased to welcome Michael Somerville all the way from London. He has written a book about The Sherwood Foresters and presented a fascinating and very informative talk Sherwood Boys: An Infantry Battalion at War. There is a link to his talk below.
Wine and nibbles were served at Harpur Hill Village Hall and we were honoured that the Mayor, Dom Elliot Starkey came along. A great evening!

Champagne and Croquet
Saturday 21st June
On Saturday 21st June we really enjoyed Alice in Wonderland champagne afternoon tea and croquet at Buxton Croquet Club in Ashwood Park. Many thanks to all who continue to support. Very special thanks to Sue Hodgkinson, Jek and Sue Jacob and Peter for all their hard work.
Helen Bloomfield.

The Croquet lawn at Ashwood Park. A little damp for Alice in Wonderland flamingos maybe, but we had a good turnout nevertheless. Plenty croquet was played and plenty champagne was drunk!

Jek and Malcolm take a quick break between rain showers.
