Wednesday 11th November 2020:
Armistice Day
'The Last Post'
Played by Georgina Bloomfield
Unfortunately, due to the situation with COVID, Ceremonies of Remembrance in Buxton and elsewhere have been severely curtailed this year. So, to mark Armistice Day 2020, Georgina Bloomfield has recorded a beautiful rendition of the 'The Last Post' on violin for our website. Click the play button in the picture to listen.
The Buxton Oignies Twinning came about as a direct result of links between the two towns which were forged in 1940, during the darkest days of World War II.
You can read more about the history of the Twinning and the tragic events that took place in Oignies on the about us page here.
On Remembrance Sunday, Association Chair, Derek Thomas along with Anne Johnson laid a wreath at the War Memorial on the Slopes, on behalf of the Friends of Oignies:
"In remembrance of the Sherwood Foresters who died in Oignies, France - From the Friends of Oignies Association"
