We received some very sad news at the end of the year. Jim Marriott sadly died on 30th December. He was a long standing member of the Friends of Oignies and will be missed by all.

On a happier note, our first social event of 2025 happened on Saturday Evening, 1st February. We welcomed a great crowd to the Bath Road Centre for a fantastic Beetle Drive with the magnificent Beetle Meister himself, Malcolm Bradbury.

After a hilarious trial go, we all got more and more frantic as we tried our best to complete the fastest beetle in each round. Several mad rounds later our pie and pea supper was ready... it was DELICIOUS! Ginny's brother Alex Merryman's farm; BORDER VIEW FARM in DRONFIELD provided us with scrumptious meat pies.

More antics followed and eventually, the highest scoring winners were declared! Many congratulations to Jacob Wright and Kirin Howat. Food preparation and washers up extraordinaire, Sue Hodgkinson and Ginny Priestly deserve an enormous amount of credit.

My thanks to the wonderful committee (Sue Quas Cohen, Sue Hodgkinson, Chris Clegg, John Walton, Peter Bloomfield) and thank you so much to everyone who attended for an evening of mayhem and fun.

Vive le Jumelage!

Helen
