AGM Report 2026
A summary of the past year from Madame la Président (AKA Helen)

Bonsoir Madame la Maire. Bonsoir les amis. Bienvenue á une nouvelle assemblée Générale annuelle.
I think its fair to say that we have had another good year. After last year’s AGM I was once again privileged to lay a wreath on Remembrance Day.
The Dickensian Market wasn’t lucrative but we had lots of interest. We shall be there on 22nd November. Please come and support.
My drop in mornings have been successful, until last week when I was Helen no mates. I shall be at Darwin’s Bar in The Crescent on Tuesday 3rd November at 11.00 am… it is good to see people.
In January we celebrated Burn’s Night. What a great way to start the year. Haggis, dancing, much laughter and of course, my excruciating bagpipe warbling. Thanks to my stooges, Ian and John.
A beetledrive is a brilliant winter warmer. In March Malcolm was a fantastic beetlemeister and Ginny’s pie and peas was delicious.
Any suggestions are welcome for social and fundraising ideas.
In anticipation of the visit to France, almost everyone came to the pre visit social at The Cavendish Golf Club. Rather stressful for me, having to check everyone’s passports and write down passport numbers but again, SO good to be together and the food was excellent and plentiful
I really want to say, ‘’Thank you” to Alan Bullock. Bullock’s coaches went above and beyond to help me with the preparations for our French visit. Dover could have been a nightmare but our driver, Kim was a dream and we sallied forth with a couple of hours in hand. It is a shame that the Port of Dover is such a miserable place! A brilliant trip to France was had by all. Weather great and wonderful to see our friends.
At the May Fair, our spot opposite The Crescent was good. From the start we were busy. We sold raffle tickets and gained some new members.
The summer barbecue was well attended despite the wet and cold weather. The raffle was well supported. Rothery family need to collect their prize…
The Christmas get together is a buffet Christmas meal at The Cavendish Golf Club. £16 per person. They need to know numbers and we need payment now. There is a list here. Please tick and pay.
All in all, a grand year. Lots of us have seen each other regularly and the organisation is strong. Peter has been industrious, securing funding from various trusts and charities. It
has taken him much time and effort. A huge thanks also to Barbara and the councillors for their generous donations. We are in a healthy position financially… but only because of Peter’s diligence and the events held throughout the year. Many of us give our time, effort and money as well as loyalty. All members pay their subs for which we are very grateful but we would also like to encourage EVERYONE, ALL members to support our fundraising as much as possible.
FINALLY
Thank you everyone and welcome to our new members.
Alison Heathcote, and Kath and Ian Taylor.
We hope that you will enjoy many years of friendship.

Full minutes of the meeting will be published here when Sue has written them up
